On 22–23 September 2025, the Competition Council of the Republic of Moldova hosted two training sessions delivered by experts from the World Bank.
These sessions addressed key issues essential for the proper functioning of the market and for safeguarding the competitive environment.
The discussions focused on the link between competition policy and economic development, on prioritising the authority’s investigations in the context of limited resources, on assessing the impact of the interventions carried out, as well as on the challenges and opportunities arising from global economic and political changes. At the same time, the role and importance of the day-to-day activities of the competition authority were analysed, together with the challenges posed by the economic power of certain undertakings and the effective handling of abuses thereof.
Particular emphasis was placed on the use of economic analysis in the work of competition authorities. Modern economic tools allow for a more precise assessment of the impact of interventions, support the substantiation of decisions, and contribute to enhancing their transparency and credibility. By applying economic analyses, the authority can better identify the actual effects of anti-competitive practices and ensure that appropriate and effective measures are implemented in the market.
Such events contribute to strengthening the institutional capacity of the Competition Council and to the implementation of more effective competition policies, benefiting the national economy. The combination of international expertise with local practical experience supports the development of a clear strategic vision and interventions tailored to the realities of the market in the Republic of Moldova.
