On 11 February 2026, at the invitation of the Ungheni District Council, a delegation of the Competition Council held a meeting with state aid grantors from Ungheni district regarding the enforcement of state aid legislation.

During the meeting, the main concepts and procedures in the field of State aid were presented and examined, with particular emphasis on their practical application by state aid grantors. The discussions addressed key elements of the regulatory framework, including the definition of State aid and de minimis aid, as well as the procedures for granting State aid.

Clarifications were also provided regarding the notification and authorisation procedures for State aid, the reporting obligations incumbent upon grantors, and the conditions under which State aid may be granted for the provision of Services of General Economic Interest (SGEI).

The meeting was held in an interactive format, providing participants with the opportunity to raise questions and receive clarifications regarding the application of the regulatory framework, in light of the specific situations encountered in their activities.

During the discussions, it was emphasized that compliance with the legal framework governing State aid constitutes an essential condition for the efficient and transparent use of public resources, the prevention of distortions of competition, and the safeguarding of a level playing field, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the economy.

Such meetings are part of a broader series of outreach activities carried out by the Competition Council at local level, aimed at strengthening dialogue with State aid granting authorities and promoting a sound understanding of State aid rules.
