On 6–7 October of the current year, employees of the Competition Council participated in a workshop on the merger review process, organized by the World Bank. The event took place at the World Bank office in Chisinau and brought together international experts as trainers.
During the two-day workshop, the participants addressed the practical legal and economic aspects of mergers, conducted relevant market analyses, and discussed the criteria for assessing the impact of transactions on the competitive environment, as well as the specific features of mergers in the financial sector. The event agenda included presentations delivered by experts from the European Commission and the World Bank, followed by interactive discussions and practical case-based exercises.
The workshop provided a platform for the exchange of experience between local and international specialists, facilitating a deeper understanding of the methodologies and approaches applied within the European Union for the assessment of mergers. The participants had the opportunity to analyse concrete examples and to identify solutions applicable in the national context.
Through this activity, the officials of the Competition Council strengthened their analytical skills necessary for a more thorough and effective assessment of mergers, particularly in complex cases. The knowledge acquired will contribute to a better substantiation of decisions, the consistent application of criteria for analysing competitive effects, and the improvement of internal practices, in line with developments within the European framework.
