On 4 July 2025, the PRIA Competition Conference Moldova took place in Chisinau — an important event dedicated to competition policy, organised by PRIAevents in partnership with the Competition Council of the Republic of Moldova.

The event brought together competition experts, representatives of competition authorities, academia, and the private sector to discuss the latest developments in the field of competition, current challenges, and the necessary actions to strengthen a fair and effective competition framework.

Topics addressed included the enforcement of competition law, the prevention of anticompetitive practices, merger control, and competition policies in Moldova in the context of the country’s accession process to the European Union. Participants shared practical insights and examples from both national and international case law.

Present at the event, the President of the Competition Council, Alexei Gherțescu, highlighted the most recent developments in the Council’s enforcement practice, addressed the challenges faced by competition authorities worldwide in the current economic context, and referred to the forthcoming amendments to be introduced in the Republic of Moldova’s competition legislation.

For the first time, the conference was attended by the Director General of the State Agency on Intellectual Property, Eugeniu Rusu, and the Head of the State Inspectorate for Non-Food Products Surveillance and Consumer Protection, Sergiu Dărănuță.

The conference took place in a context in which the Republic of Moldova is making concrete steps towards aligning its competition legislation and practices with European Union standards. In this process, continuous dialogue with other public institutions and representatives of the business environment plays a key role in ensuring the effective enforcement of competition rules and a fair economic climate.
