Between 5 and 13 September 2024, a delegation of five representatives of the Competition Council participated in a study visit organised by the Polish competition authority (UOKiK). The event took place within the framework of an international cooperation programme, with the aim of strengthening expertise and the exchange of best practices in the field of competition.

The first part of the visit took place in the format of job shadowing in the cities of Poznań and Łódź, attended by experts from the counterpart authority of Ukraine (AMCU). During this phase, key themes were addressed to develop and maintain a fair competitive market, such as:

  • Efficient market studies – planning and conducting;
  • Commitments;
  • Dawn raids in theory and in practice – demonstration of equipment used by search teams.

Between 11-13 September 2024, the delegation attended an intensive workshop focused on unfair and antitrust trade practices in Warsaw. Within it, the following topical issues were discussed:

  • UTP investigations: obtaining information on unfair practices and demonstrating violations;
  • Fees charged in the agri-food supply chain;
  • Antitrust: settlements vs leniency;
  • Using market inquiries in advocacy and enforcement.

This study visit represents a valuable opportunity for strengthening international cooperation relations and for deepening technical knowledge in the field of competition, and, thus contributing to the strengthening of the institutional capacities of the Competition Council in protecting and promoting a fair and competitive market.
